Here is a link to an article in USA Today about the recent spate of comedies that involve unplanned pregnancies, consideration of abortion, and the struggles therein. Of the three films covered in the article, I've only seen Knocked Up (which I found extremely funny), but I've got both Juno and Waitress in the old queue. The two parts of the article I found interesting were 1) the changing portrayal of the unwed pregnant woman in film (and the fact that the topic can be shown as humorous), and Judd Apatow's (rather wise) observation that people probably ought to consider other sources than the maker of The 40 Year Old Virgin for in-depth political and sociological analysis (such as the over analysis found here, which was debated ad nauseum over the summer). Of course, I was surprised that any new ground in the area of pregnancy could be unearthed at all, after this documentary...
