Most won't know this name, but to anyone who's ever rolled a 20-sided die, he'll be missed. The co-developer of Dungeons and Dragons has died at the age of 69. While I didn't get into role-playing as much as some people I know or have read about, I certainly enjoyed these games as a young teen. I'd guess video games have replaced role-playing games to a significant extent, but I'd also imagine the role-playing genre had a huge influence on the development of the video game industry. All I can say is that I found the games fascinating when I was in junior high school, and as mentally stimulating as any video game I've ever played (which isn't many, admittedly, but I'd wager the point stands).
