Interesting article here about the recent thinking concerning the relationship to physical fitness and children’s academic achievement. First, the article discusses how well children in America are doing compared to children in other countries with respect to scholastic achievement (specifically math and science). Next addressed is the problem of increasing weight gain among the children of America. An interesting argument is made to connect the two, citing evidence that those who exercise also benefit from improved mental functioning. While the connection between physical and mental fitness is nothing new, this is an interesting application of the the two ideas. Worth a read, and certainly more evidence that parents need to make sure their kids are getting enough physical activity.
