Christmas Films - 10 Unconventional Recommendations from Wired
Here is a link to a brief review of some unconventional Christmas movie recommendations. Of course, Die Hard is a modern masterpiece (talk about a film that prompted multiple rip-offs, and influenced an entire genre - for the better, I might add), and both The Nightmare before Christmas and Gremlins are worthy of a re-watch. Several recommendations are of movies I’ve yet to see, so I’ll have to go to the old queue and list a couple (most notably The Thin Man), and hopefully see a couple between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
What’s also interesting are the comments. I usually link to articles and posts for the content on the post, as the comments section can range in interest from helpful/informative to uninformed/offensive. In this case, it’s amazing to me how some people can pick up on the theme - UNCONVENTIONAL - and offer solid suggestions, such as The Ref (which I haven’t seen, but will now queue, and certainly fits the unconventional description), and how others will write things like, “How could you leave off National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation?” or “Home Alone?” or “A Christmas Story?” I’m not exactly sure how any of those three, to cite as examples, come close being unconventional. I don’t see the point in flaming anyone, it just seems hard to believe so many people can miss the entire point of a list, especially after viewing the contents of the list. I saw something similar a month or two back regarding a list of the best live rock albums. It took about four or five posts before people started ripping the author for leaving off Abbey Road, Born In the U.S.A., etc. Amusing...
